The Power Quality and Energy Storage group (PQES) designs and manufactures power quality systems and power conversion systems for commercial, industrial, electric utility and distributed generation markets. This position is part of the PQES Qualification & Validation Testing group and has primary responsibility for design verification testing and validation testing for new and existing inverter-based Energy-Storage Systems, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), and Reactive Compensation systems. In this position you will report to the Manager of Reliability Engineering and be located in S&Cís Franklin location, however some travel may be required.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Planning, scheduling, preparing and executing test plans/procedures for completing Product Characterization tests, System Characterization tests, Type-Tests, and Engineering Verification Tests; and, Regulatory Agency compliance testing (Safety, EMC/ EMI, performance to Codes and Standards, etc.) to meet product performance specifications.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and datasheets.
  • Designing, assembling, testing and troubleshooting electrical and electronic circuits and fixtures and assemblies with digital, analog and programmable components.
  • Testing and troubleshooting power electronics products, controls circuits and systems.
  • Technically assessing product quality and reliability issues through investigating product RMA returns, establishing test standards, methods, test environment; analyzing and evaluating findings and failures; performing root cause analysis; testing for cause and effect; reliability modeling using software and physical modeling tools; writing RMA failure analysis and qualification reports; and confirming countermeasures.
  • Continuously improve Qualification & Validation testing activities, and support product quality and reliability improvement initiatives within the Qualification & Validation Test team.
  • Safely and effectively operating energized equipment, with voltages up to 480VAC, 900VDC, and currents up to 3000A.
  • Must be able to organize, handle and perform multiple assignments and tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, project-driven team environment with electrical, mechanical, and embedded-software engineers.
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 4 to 5 Years of substantial experience in electrical system testing, power electronics testing, embedded controls testing, test setup design and assembly, RMA root-cause investigation and problem solving.
  • Solid understanding of lab test and measuring instrumentation including experience with electrical, mechanical, thermal, and EMC test equipment for design characterization, sub-system and product qualification/ validation, and reliability characterization.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team service-oriented environment.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, highly organized, and self-disciplined under close deadlines, across cross-functional team requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office tools and data-acquisition software.
  • Ability to travel without restrictions up to 10% of the time.
