Default A Survey of Techniques for Modeling and Improving Reliability of Computing Systems

https://www.academia.edu/12046032/A_...puting_Systems Accepted in IEEE TPDS (Transaction on Parallel and Distributed Systems), 2015.

Reliability has different aspects, of which this paper focuses on techniques proposed for modeling and improving resilience against soft (transient) errors caused due to cosmic radiation and thermal disturbance. Techniques are proposed for CPU and GPU (and their components such as cache, main memory, register file, functional unit), non-volatile memories (e.g. phase change memory) etc. At high altitudes (e.g. aircraft and space), soft errors increase greatly and techniques discussed will be highly useful for devices operated in such scenarios.
